“Deity” by Amado Nervo

As the spark sleeps in the pebble
and the statue in the mud,
divinity sleeps in you.
Only in a constant and severe pain
by colliding, from the inert stone springs the
lightning of the deity.
Do not complain, therefore, of destination,
for what within you is divine
arises only thanks to fate.
Endure it, if possible, smiling,
the artist carves life through
the tough clashing of the chisel.

What do you care about bad times,
if every hour puts a pen more beautiful
on your nascent wings?
You will see the condor in full height,
You will see the finished sculpture,
you'll see, soul, you'll see...
